The V festival recently hosted
Air on their first trip down under and so I took the chance to see them. I had been warned by my sister that they were not that great live so I wasn't holding out for a great performance. Well, they weren't too bad but their style of music probably doesn't fit well in a festival (there were a few confused sounds from the general festival goers). I think you needed to be near the front with a more appreciative audience as from the back the noise of the crowd drowned out the music at times.
But I was prepared, and I went and saw them at the Opera house a week later. First impression: It's a lot smaller inside than you'd expect but it makes for a cosy performance. With simple lighting and smoke they cruised through tracks moving from chilled out lounge listening to more rocky stuff (I was suprised how much guitar they actually had in their music). When they left the stage I would have rated the performace "definitely worth seeing" but the encore was insanely drawn out and epileptically intense and rewarded with a well deserved standing ovation.
